Hattiesburg Half Marathon 4-11-2026 Half Marathon #57

 Hattiesburg Half ✔

It turned out to be a HOT and MUGGY day.  I started out feeling ok, but by mile 8 or 9 I was not feeling so good.  My heart rate was elevated and I felt sick.  Between the hills we had run and the sun, it was getting HARDER and HARDER.  I was NOT enjoying running at all.  😁

I pushed on alternating some walk breaks till I finished.  The others had finished slightly ahead of me and were waiting at the finish line.  However, as soon as I crossed all I wanted to do was to find a cool shaded place and sit down a minute.  I remember Penny's husband looking at me and saying, "D, are you ok"....  apparently, it was written all over my face that I was done. 😟

I was happy to be done and ready to go home to do NOTHING.  😀 I did not hang around long at the after party.  Matter of fact, we kind of all decided it was time to go home and rest.

I was really downing myself for feeling bad and not running well, until Monday morning when I talked to my coworker who is a very good and fast runner and he told me he felt bad too at the race.  I guess the heat really did affect some of us.  😓

Thankful I finished.  Just another training run in the books! We've also gotten very little rain here during the month of April so if this is any indication of summer... we are in TROUBLE!  Where are those April showers that bring May flowers???

Heading to the start line... Penny's husband, Hardy was doing the 5K!

I'm watching my friends from my shaded spot sitting down as they eat and laugh after the race.
